Who We Are
BAUM TenPers Institute is a nonprofit, academic, and research-focused organization that was established in 2015 in the state of Virginia, United States. Our primary goal is to serve as a leading platform for empowering intellectually gifted students—especially those from low-income or underserved backgrounds in developing countries—by providing access to high-quality education, rigorous academic training, and meaningful research experiences.
We operate at the intersection of academic excellence and social equity, offering programs that are specifically designed to help students prepare for and secure admissions to fully funded doctoral (PhD) programs in the world’s most competitive universities. Our work is rooted in a strong belief that talent is universal, but opportunity is not—and we exist to bridge that gap.
Our Mission and Focus
Our mission is to build a community of well-trained scholars and researchers from developing regions who are equipped with the quantitative, analytical, and research skills necessary to succeed at top-tier academic institutions and make meaningful contributions to global knowledge and development.
We focus primarily on disciplines such as:
- Economics and Econometrics
- Finance and Financial Mathematics
- Statistics and Data Science
- Mathematical Sciences
- Public Policy and Development Studies
Through our carefully designed programs, we aim to help students deepen their knowledge, sharpen their research skills, and become globally competitive candidates for PhD programs in North America, Europe, and beyond.
What We Offer
1. Certificate Training Program
The BAUM Certificate Program is an intensive, advanced-level training opportunity that covers essential subjects such as microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, mathematical economics, linear algebra, real analysis, and econometrics. These certificate courses are taught by experienced instructors and volunteer faculty who are passionate about mentoring and academic excellence.
The program is structured to provide a rigorous academic environment that replicates the standards and expectations of top graduate schools. It is ideal for students who want to strengthen their academic foundation, gain theoretical clarity, and prepare for high-level graduate studies in economics or related fields.
2. Pre-Doctoral Preparation and Research Assistantship
One of the flagship offerings of the Institute is our PhD preparation and mentorship track. This track is intended for students who are ready to apply to PhD programs in the next one to two years. It combines coursework, research assistantship opportunities, and personalized mentorship. Participants are supported through every stage of the graduate school application process—including GRE preparation, Statement of Purpose development, Letters of Recommendation, and research proposal writing.
Our alumni have gone on to secure fully funded admissions to elite institutions such as Stanford University, University of Oxford, Yale University, University of California Berkeley, Columbia University, University of Michigan, and others.
3. Open Research Experience for Graduate and Undergraduate Students (OREGU)
This is a semester-long, remote research initiative that provides undergraduate and early graduate students with a chance to engage in high-quality, supervised research projects. Each student is paired with a faculty mentor and assigned a research topic in economics, statistics, or finance. The outcome of this experience is a research paper that may be presented at conferences or submitted to journals for publication.
This unique opportunity allows students to experience what it’s like to be part of an academic research team and prepares them for the demands of graduate-level research.
