About Our Goal
- Conduct interdisciplinary research that uncovers new economic insights for knowledge advancement and optimal policy decision making
- Organize capacity building programs for individuals looking to acquire the necessary skills to successfully embark on a PhD in economics, finance, statistics, applied mathematics, and related disciplines
- Offer academic scholarships to outstanding low-income students
Our Certificate Program in Econometrics, Economic Theory, and Mathematical Economics at Baum Tenpers is a not-for-profit preparatory program designed for students planning to pursue an economics or related PhD and need a rigorous exposure to graduate-level work. The program grew out of the need to support the academic potential of bright students who cannot afford to enroll in similar graduate programs at traditional universities due to limited resources.
Capacity building in Africa is at the heart of what we do. To achieve this, we identify talented students in Africa through a rigorous selection process. We then match them to our affiliated researchers for a period of mentorship that lasts for 6 to 24 months. Students work as predoctoral researchers during this period, which positions them to learn and improve their research skills. They also participate in our certificate training program to prepare them for graduate school.
Partnerships for Success
We partner with individuals, academic institutions, and policy institutes, and collaborate with researchers worldwide to engage in theoretical and empirical research that answers important questions and unlocks insights for tackling the problems of poverty and capital markets underdevelopment that are inimical to economic advancement in some of the poorest regions of the world.
Our senior research fellows work in a variety of research fields, so students can be certain to get matched to research mentors with expertise in areas that interest students.
What Students Say
I'm glad to be part of the success story at Baum Tenpers (BT) Research Group, where I doubled in many capacities. As an RA, I was exposed to the world of research and had the rare privilege to work with senior research fellows, who invested their time and efforts to initiate, discuss and supervise my work, and also supported my graduate school applications in which I got admitted to six PhD programs in the US.
As a young fresh graduate of economics, keenly interested in research and a graduate-level degree in economics, I was unsure which path is optimal and will propel me towards my goal. Baum Tenpers Research Institute (BT) provided me a platform that helped me make the optimal decision. Through BT, I was able to engage with top scholars in the field of economics, a very rare privilege.
Today, I am currently running my PhD program in Economics at the University of Memphis, Tennessee, USA and I must say that all the hands-on experience gained at Baum Tenpers has been a plus in adapting to the foreign educational system. Indeed, I am happy and privileged to be a part of Baum Tenpers.
